Trades at the top of the Fox

Date Posted: July 23 2004

RESTORATION work on the exterior terra cotta of the Fox Theatre in Detroit continued last month, with employees of restoration Grunwell-Cashero on the job. Masons from Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 and support crafts continued to repair and replace sections of the exterior terra cotta, and now they're on the roof. As we reported late last year, this is the largest and most significant exterior restoration in the building's 76-year history. Over the years, seams have failed, support steel for the exterior panels have rusted, and some of the terra cotta panels have loosened. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.
